Tinashe Brings Her ‘Match My Freak’ Tour To Houston

Tinashe was on fire in Houston for her Match My Freak tour. Concertgoers filed into the Bayou Center with anticipation and enthusiasm in their bodies ready to dance and sing along to one of the hottest albums this year.

Raveena opened the night up with a set list out of a dream. She was like a breath of fresh air singing songs off her projects like “If Only” and “Honey.” A stand-out moment in her set was her recognition of 90s R&B and her angelic cover of Aaliyah and Isley Brothers’ hit song “At Your Best.”

Next to hit the stage was the lady of the night, Tinashe. The show opened up with a video montage with pictures of Tinashe and flashing lights, as the crowd went crazy.  Tinashe stepped on the stage singing “Getting No Sleep” and then went into more songs from her new project Quantum Baby like “When I Get You Alone” and a couple of songs from her older projects. 

Tinashe’s stage presence controlled the room. You can tell she is not new to this. She had an army of male dancers on this tour which is a big contrast from earlier tours when it was mostly all female dancers behind her. Having all male dancers gave the show a little harder edge, matching the vibe of her new project. 

Another stand-out moment in this tour was her doing her hit collab with Kaytranada, “The Worst In Me.” The crowd went nuts when the beat dropped. She continued to touch songs from her new project then took it back to her radio hits like “All Hands On Deck and the fan favorite “2 on.”

Tinashe ended the show with her newer hits “No Broke Boys” which had the whole building singing with her word for word and her big hit “Nasty.” The “Nasty” choreo alone deserves its own review for it is monumental energy which was a great decision to end the night. The whole crowd was singing and dancing along making it feel like a club and ballroom setting. Tinashe’s energy for this tour was very strong and she commanded the attention of everyone. If she comes to a city near you make sure you grab your tickets you will not be disappointed.
