New York Knicks Weekly: Making Sense of Nonsense

SEASON RECORD

9-12

Week record: 1-2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Knicks again proved that they not only won the draft but also have the steal of the draft. Last week we gave Immanuel Quickley the best performance of the week award. This week we have no choice but to put him as the Player of the Week. He started the week in a shooting slump after his career-high of 31 against the Blazers— only scoring 6 points shooting a LUDICROUS 1/11. He bounced back mightily against the Cavs and Clippers dropping 25 back-to-back points. In the matchup against the Clippers in the fourth quarter, he fought valiantly to nearly give the Knicks the win. The Clippers who are title contenders had to put Kawhi Leonard on him to slow him down. Yes, he only made 2/8 from three but this man is on the verge of becoming a legit top scorer in the league. He has shown more efficiency than we saw from RJ at this point in his career last year. All love to RJ though.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK!

Let's face it if Julius Randle's teammates can step up and help him, the Knicks would be a threat. This week's performance of the week goes to Julius Randle. He was a man on the mission against the Clippers. He scored 27 points on 50 percent shooting making 4/5 three-pointers, he tacked on 12 rebounds and 5 assists as well. He had his dominant performance against two MVP candidates in Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Win or lose we can be sure of one thing, Julius Randle is going to leave it all on the court.

SUMMARY

Going 1-2 this week, the Knicks drop to 9-12 for the season. The Knicks have one of the league's best defenses, so why is the team losing? It’s simple the role players are not playing their role. Julius Randle, RJ, and Immanuel Quickley had themselves a great week; however, the other members of the team are holding them back. The Knicks need reliable role players if they want to make a run for the playoffs. Let’s look at the Clippers game, The Knicks “big three” dropped 75 points and only one other player had double digits— that player was Elfrid with 10 points. The team cannot have players such as Mitchell Robinson playing 30 minutes and only scoring 9 points with 6 rebounds.
