Nstasia Reminds Fans Why They’re The ‘Illest’ On New Single
Rising R&B singer Nstasia released her newest track “Illest” on Friday (March 21) which shows the artist’s devotion to self-love and confidence. Over a dream-like production and angelic lyrics written by the North Carolina singer who has penned songs for the likes of Beyoncé, Kelly Clarkson, and more, she is determined to get back to feeling her best self. She begins the track by asking fans if they can relate to her experience.
“Have you ever had one of those days where you want to be alone? /Your hoping ain’t nobody home /You just really need your space/ Have you ever felt like something’s missing?/Can’t put your finger on the wong?” Nstasia begins.
Following the questions to her listeners, Nstasia gets vulnerable in telling them that she has experienced moments of feeling down but is optimistic that her feelings are short-term.
“Well I get those days/I know what you mean/I’ll love me blind/I ain’t judging me/Because everybody goes through sometimes/But I know I’ll make it out on the other side,” she continues.
In conversation with Beyond The Record — which will air on 3/26 — the singer shares why she felt inspired to create the vulnerable track.
“It can happen every other day or once a week or a couple of times a month, even if it’s not super drastic,” the singer explains. “You just never know when it’s going to come and I think it’s a regular occurrence in life for me at least and I don’t think I’m alone.
For Nstasia, the answer is simple, direct, yet soft in her delivery telling her friend or partner exactly what she needs to feel like herself once again.
“I’ll turn my phone on tomorrow/I’ll be back to myself hold on/Just call me tomorrow/I’ll be back to the illest bitch you ever know,” she sings.
In promotion of her new single and in honor of Women’s History Month, Nstasia gave her flowers to some of the “illest” women she knows.
“I asked some of the most inspirational women I know what makes them the ‘illest’” she says in a voiceover as images of women flash slowly along in black-and-white. From lawyers to content creators, Nstasia showcased a special group of women who not only mean a lot to her but to their community.
Nstasia’s latest release follows “You First” which was released on December 2024. The “Illest” will follow her upcoming EP which will be out this spring.
