Day26 Returned Like They Never Left

Before the show even started, 97.9 The Box's very own Keisha Nicole was already on the mic getting the crowd hyped, running through classic records, and setting the tone for the night to come.

If you grew up watching Making the Band 4, then seeing Day26 live in Houston felt like stepping right back into the late 2000s, except this time the nostalgia vibes were in person and not on a TV screen.

Before the group stepped on the stage, the opening sounds of “Got Me Going” sent the crowd into a frenzy. The screams started instantly, and once Brian, Que, Willie, Robert, and Mike finally walked out, the energy inside the venue completely shifted because the crowd was more than ready to see one of their fav RnB groups. From the very first song, they delivered a high-energy R&B performance that reminded everyone exactly why the group still holds such a loyal fan base to this day.

Halfway through “Are We In This,” the song transitioned into “What It Feels Like.” Que took center stage, and the crowd somehow got even louder. Each member rotated through the spotlight during their solo parts, catering to their fans. The chemistry still held strong after all these years. The choreography was sharp, clean, and synchronized, proving these guys truly hadn’t missed a beat since their last performance.

One of the best parts of the night was how interactive the group was with the audience. At one point, Mike told everyone to “grab somebody and pull them close, and if you ain’t got nobody, pretend you do.” This led into one of the slower records that had everybody throughout the venue singing word for word, whether they came with someone or met someone that night.

The production knew exactly when to let the music breathe. Towards the end of one song, the lights suddenly dropped completely black, leaving only the silhouettes of the group visible onstage. The screams echoed throughout the venue. It felt cinematic for a moment, like the crowd was reliving a memory in real time.

The biggest reactions came from the classics; Songs like “Perfectly Blind,” “Exclusive (Co-Star),” “Day Ones,” and “Come In” had the fans singing louder than Day 26. But when “So Good” started playing, the entire place became a choir. Nearly every song included moments where the beat would cut completely so the crowd could sing the lyrics back word for word, showing their appreciation for the music. Hearing hundreds of voices hit every run and harmony together honestly felt surreal.

Then, Mike stepped to the front of the stage and asked the crowd who remembered Making the Band. Almost instantly, the crowd responded as one. The group took a moment to recreate the iconic scene from Making the Band where Brian auditioned for his spot after new contestants entered the house. Reenacting the moment live on stage, with cappella vocals and comedy from Big Mike playing the “new guy,” sent the crowd straight down memory lane.

The vocals were live. No heavy backing tracks, no hiding behind production, just real harmonies, real runs, and a real crowd’s interaction. Day 26 took time to show us what a lot of the newer artists’ performances are missing: authenticity.

Day26 closed the night with “Since You’ve Been Gone,” ending the show on an emotional high while fans sang along like it was a Sunday morning service. Nearly twenty years after their formation, the group still performed with chemistry and charisma, and their stage presence reminded the audience why they fell in love with them in the first place.
