New York Knicks Weekly: Is Derrick Rose going to save us from our Point Guard Nightmare?

SEASON RECORD: 11-14

Week record: 2-2

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

24.5 points, 10 Rebounds, 6 Assists. The man! the myth! the legend! JULIUS DEION RANDLE! I will be the first to admit I thought that Julius was just on a nice little hot streak but it is more than that. He is putting up near All-NBA First-Team numbers. Every week he continues to dazzle us. Julius Randle has become the diamond in the rough that we need.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

To be honest, I am no fan of this week’s performance of the week selection. I have called for him to be traded as several of the Knicks’ losses lay right at his feet. For two games though he showed us what he was capable of. That person is Elfrid Payton. Payton chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in a win against Damian Lillard and the Blazers. Randle and Payton were key to securing a tough win last weekend.

SUMMARY

After another 2-2 week finish, we cannot continue to drop games. We should’ve won that game against Miami but again we failed at the point guard position. And yes, most of the blame for that continues to lie at the feet of Elfrid Payton. If we truly want to make a playoff push, we need a better option at the point. The Knicks, to everyone’s surprise, was able to secure former MVP Derrick Rose by trading Dennis Smith Jr and a second-round pick. Derrick Rose brings the veteran leadership and experience that this team is severely missing. Things may finally be looking up for this cursed franchise.
