Zack Greinke: Gambling's Weirdest New Wagon?

Bizarre. Weird. Mercurial. Eccentric. Neurotic. All of these words perfectly describe the mystery that is Zack Greinke. While the decorated MLB pitcher has lost some of the velocity we saw early in his career, Greinke still presents a beautifully mysterious pitching display every outing.

But why should you care? After all, he pitches for the Royals who dwell right in the heart of anonymous mediocrity. He isn't a Cy Young candidate, and it's not like Royals' money line becomes a lock whenever he pitches. While all of these things are true, Greinke should capture your attention because he's Zack Greinke and no one thinks strikeouts whenever they hear Zack Greinke.

But this year has started to look like something of a small resurgence for Greinke. The Kansas City Royals veteran arm has posted a strikeout percentage of 18.3 percent according to Fangraphs. To put that in perspective, that's a higher strikeout rate than Charlie Morton, Shane Bieber, and Dustin May to start out the year. Greinke also sports a K/9 of 6.85 which is higher than Corbin Burnes. Is Greinke in the realm of Spencer Strider, Jacob Degrom, or Shohei Ohtani? No. But he doesn't need to be. Greinke simply needs to be better than his line. What's his line you may ask? It's 3 strikeouts.

Zack Greinke's strikeout prop represents one of the most interesting and potentially lucrative lines out there today. In the first five starts of the season, Greinke has pushed or cashed his over 3 strikeouts line 80 percent of the time, and sports books and DFS sites like Prizepicks are not going to be changing that line anytime soon.

Will Greinke be able to maintain this insane clip? I have no idea. But like with all things Greinke, don't try to make it make sense, just enjoy the ride.
