The 4 WORST NFL Franchises Over The Last Decade
4. LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (71-105 RECORD)
The Las Vegas Raiders have been a joke really since the start of the millennium. Outside of Super Bowl 37, Raiders fans have had to endure constant misery. ONE winning season in the last decade - ONE!. Part of this has to be the turnstile that’s been a whopping six coaches in the 10-year span.
This hasn’t been a team devoid of talent either, they’ve struck gold in the draft nabbing Amari Cooper and Khalil Mack but inexplicably got rid of both. In Raider fashion, they went 8-8 in 2010 - their first non-losing season since 2003 - and managed to sweep the AFC West in the process all to still miss out on the playoffs. Adding on to typical Raider-dom, they started the 2013 campaign 0-10 before breaking a 14-year playoff drought three years later.
Such a rollercoaster franchise. Derek Carr led the team to the playoffs and everything looked great until he got hurt in Week 16. Don’t you just hate when your Carr breaks down?. Anywho, the Raiders were quickly eliminated and went right back to being mediocre the very next year. We also didn’t forget that they had the chance to draft both Josh Allen - the DE on the Jags - and Devin White with the 4th pick in 2019 and wound up with Clelin Ferrell.
While still not great, the new decade started with another 8-8 year so at least the Las Vegas tenure is starting off on somewhat of a good foot, here to hoping this decade goes smoother than the last.
3. WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM (69-106)
Washington FINALLY changed their problematic team name and came up with “Football Team”. Seriously?! It’s 2021 and Washington still doesn’t have a franchise quarterback. Some things never change. In the last 10 years, the Football Team has only finished higher than third in the NFC East twice.
Things looked good when they traded up to select Heisman winner and 2012 Rookie of the Year Robert Griffin III. The bad news? He hit a mean stanky leg trying to recover a fumble and tore his ACL, being essentially relegated to a backup role after 2015. Then there was the man Dan Snyder drafted three rounds after RGIII who the team couldn’t commit to offering him the franchise tag year after year.
The heir apparent, Dwayne Haskins, didn’t last too long after being selected in the first round in 2019 and he’s already on a different team. Don’t even get me started on Derrius Guice. This organization is absolutely pathetic. Dan Snyder is one of the worst owners in the NFL - sorry, you can’t fire him. They did make the playoffs in 2020 in a divisional race that was just begging for a winner. And why did it take so long to fire Jay Gruden? Look on the bright side, Washington at least the Football Team defense looks promising.
2. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (55-124)
Next up are the perennially dysfunctional Jacksonville Jaguars. Eight out of the last 10 seasons, resulted in double-digit losses. Remember first-round picks Tyson Alualu, Blake Bortles, Blaine Gabbert, and Justin Blackmon? It’s okay, most fans don’t either. To make matters worse the Jags reside in a division - the AFC South - that has been the worst division in the AFC for quite a minute.
In 2013, the Jags started the season 0-8 but became the mighty Sacksonville four years later. The Jags got right, backed behind a stout defense that made their second AFC Championship game in franchise history. They would follow this up by going 5-11 the next season and eventually lost nearly every member of that vaunted defense in the coming years. The new decade has begun with the Jags landing the #1 overall pick in this summer’s draft. Luckily, Trevor Lawrence appears to be one of the most NFL-ready college QBs in years. Don’t ruin him.
Don’t let the 2021 Browns make you forget how AWFUL this franchise was last decade. The laughingstock of the NFL, Browns fans had endured a lot since re-entering in the NFL in 1999. But starting in 2010, the decade wasn’t very kind to Cleveland. For starters, they had 8 coaches in 10 seasons.
Like other horrible teams, multiple first-round draft picks didn’t pan out. Brandon Weeden was 28 years old when the Browns took him in the first round having spent time in the MLB minor leagues before exhausting his college eligibility at Oklahoma State. Then there was Trent Richardson, Barkevious Mingo, Justin Gilbert, and the man, the myth and legend himself Johnny Football/ All duds.
Danny Shelton in 2015 wasn’t too good either. At least they had Corey Coleman? Oh, wait…….sorry. The Browns were infamous for being a QB graveyard. The whole Hue Jackson era. I mean, come on! A 1-31 record - which obviously came with a winless, 0-16 season? I’ve never seen so many records broken for losing. The Browns are easily the WORST team of the 2010s.
