SiR’s Life is Good sold-out tour stop in Houston was filled with emotion, grit, soul, and purpose!
The show opened with fellow TDE artist, Zacari, walking out with his acoustic guitar. He performed a couple of new songs acapella from his most recent album Bliss. Songs such as “FOMO” and “Bless Her Heart” engaged the crowd. He closed his set by singing the hook from his Kendrick Lamar collaboration “LOVE.”
The second opener, Davion Farris, SiR’s brother, then took the stage and executed effortlessly with his sultry voice and cool LA vibes. He started his set off with a cover for a crowd favorite, “I Wish” by Carl Thomas. Davion’s showmanship created an unmatched connection with the crowd. If not many people knew of Davion, he definitely left the show with an increased fan base. Davion used his time on stage to showcase his charismatic vocal range and authentic R&B tones to captivate the audience. With each note, each word, and each song, the crowd cheered and wanted to hear more.
After a short intermission the man of the hour SiR took the stage. The crowd roared as he walked on stage singing “Heavy Intro” from his most recent album, Heavy. He began to dance at the close of the song as the band played to transition to the next song “Karma.” He took everyone on a ride through with Heavy and some of his older singles. The audience sung along word for word and didn’t miss a note. Midway through the show, SiR was overtaken by emotion and opened up to everyone about losing his mom today as he began to shed tears. As he was speaking, he fell to the ground, and his brother Davion came to embrace and support him in this vulnerable moment. SiR told the audience that his mother told him to “never stop working.” He shared a brief history about how his mom was a hard worker and worked in the music ministry at her church for 35 years. He explained how she was a stapled beacon back home in their community of Inglewood, CA, and the congregation at their church. He added every time there was a funeral in the community, “my mom was there.”
SiR briefly shared about his battle with sobriety and how his mom helped him by continuously encouraging him to use his music as an outlet. He announced as of tonight he had been 1 year and 10 months sober. The crowd cheered and yelped of gratitude and support as he continued along his journey. Slowly, he began to shed a few tears again in grief as he opened up about wanting to express his thoughts about losing his mom. He shared stories on how he and his brothers – Davion and SiR have another brother who is a musician, D Smoke, who was not in attendance – wouldn’t be the men they are today if it wasn’t for their mother.

After gathering his emotions, SiR took a moment to engage the crowd and asked what they wanted to hear. He chose a front row fan to pick a song and she selected “That’s Why I Love You.” SiR encouraged her to know the words and to sing the Sabrina Claudio part. SiR granted the request, and passed her the microphone, but the fan did not know the words, so SiR asked for the mic back. The crowd laughed with him, as everyone could tell this was helping to uplift his spirits to be more himself. SiR then proceeded to comically ask the audience to sing Sabrina’s Claudio’s part of the song in a duet with him. The audience sang in one accord and created a smile of appreciation on SiR’s face. He then went to sing more hits heavy and strong like “Ricky’s Song,” “I’m Trying My Hardest,” and “Only Human. As he performed “The Recipe,” a song he and Davion wrote together, he welcomed his brother, Davion, back onto the stage.
SiR’s show in Houston was a memorable night his fans will never forget. A night of compassion and grief for SiR, his brother Davion, and his fan base. Witnessing SiR’s strength as he shared the pain of losing not only a loved one, but a parent, allowed the audience to experience even more rawness in his talent. To conclude the night, the band played “Life Is Good”as SiR began to sing the first verse with full emotion, he realized he could release his pain and listen to the crowd sang his song back to him, so he took a moment to grieve. The crowd showered him with love through his lyrics and overpowered his voice. As the show came to a close, SiR took a bow as the mega screen displayed “In Loving Memory of Jackie Gouche” in tribute to their late mother.
