Lowkey R&B X BJRNCK Interview
Lowkey R&B sits down with R&B artist Bjrnck about her new song “Thug Cry” and what we can expect next from the upcoming artist.
When did you decide you wanted to start singing?
I’ve kinda been singing my whole life and I first started singing in church. The first time I sang in front of people was actually in fourth grade when I forgot my musical instrument and decided that I was just going to use my voice because that was the only instrument I had.
My teacher said, “Girl, you had this voice and didn’t try out for choir? Come to rehearsals on [blank] date.” I ended up trying out for choir and got a solo so when my mom came to the recital I surprised her. Ever since then I’ve been into singing. Church was definitely a huge role in my voice lessons.
Can you tell us what was your favorite part in recording “THUG CRY” and making the video?
My favorite thing about the song was recording it, the “ooh, ooh” part I recorded once and tried to do it again and it didn’t hit the same so I just went with my gut. The video was fun because I thought it was dope to have all these fine ass men crying over me (laughs).
From the first scene in the video, I see that you’re tattooing a guy and I also noticed that you have a couple of tattoos yourself. Do your tattoos have a special meaning?
Sometimes I just think of a tattoo the same day and then I’ll just go and get it but I just know that I should just be going out to get it. I have a butterfly one on my hand because I love butterflies and it resonates with me a lot. I just think we are all a caterpillar once and we just flourish into a beautiful butterfly.
What is your favorite song from your catalog or a song that has special meaning to you?
It's between two, “Waiting on You” is one of my favorite songs just because I was just playing around on Instagram Live and it was at the beginning of quarantine.
My engineer and I FaceTimed and we were just sending each other ideas back and forth so that process was really dope. “Thug Cry” I love that one as well it’s my newest song at the moment so you know when you have a new one come out…its’s just my favorite song at the moment.
What are your plans for the rest of this year? What can we expect next from you?
You can definitely expect another single coming out very soon, hopefully in the next couple of weeks or so. My plan is to be able to tell my story and give a piece to myself to everyone that I haven’t shared before. I’ve put my heart and soul into this and have been more vulnerable than I’ve ever been. I’m just really excited to share that.
