AH: When did you decide you wanted to go into the music industry?

CN: My mom put me into dance class and I thought I would go into becoming a background dancer. Then when I got injured well not, really I just have flat feet (laughs) I put my creativity into editing videos and decided to do more of the production side of the industry. The singing thing happened when I was working for other people and then I decided that I wanted to write my own song but I wasn’t sure how I would want it to sound. But, eventually that’s how my first song came about, “I Like You” which I released on Valentine’s Day.

AH: Were you nervous to release your first song? How was that process like for you?

CN: I can’t say that I was nervous but I have to admit I was nervous if I could pay everyone because at the time I was working two jobs, an internship, working on music, I even applied for a contest to win money but I got it done!

AH: Let’s talk about your latest track, “Here I Am” what was the inspiration behind this song?

CN: The song came about after a year or so of not writing. I was searching on the internet I found that a songwriter that I respect was having a mentorship program and I signed up for it. The actual song came from an assignment and she gave me a library of instrumentals and said write. I wrote two songs one for a boys group and one for a girls group; both with K-Pop in mind.

AH: In the music video, you change into a couple of looks (black & white pant suit and a flirty ruffled pink dress) which are opposite of each other. Which one would you say fits your personal style more?

CN: I would say my style is a bit eclectic but overall I would say I’m a tomboy but a dapper tomboy. I’ll wear a suit or suit jacket and I might look like a contemporary pastor but I still look fly (laugh). But, somewhere down in the center, there is a princess so I’ll say a princess tomboy for sure.

AH: Who is someone you wish to collab with in the future, if any?

CN: I would like to work with Dua Lipa, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj ultimate goal for sure, Rico Nasty, Enchanting, Kali, Monaleo.

AH: What can we expect from you next?

CN: Chroma, my new project, will be dropping in the spring and there’s a little indie film that I’m acting in called Revelation so you’ll see me in there. I’m also dropping my new merCHANNdise on www.chantel-nicole.com and I’m thinking of doing some performances soon as well.
