Jhené Aiko's Eventful Grammy Night
2020 was quite the year for Jhené Aiko. Last March, she released her platinum album Chilombo which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The title is her last name which means “wild beast” in an African language. In this album, she highlights her self-discovery and is fully transparent whether if it is about sex, love, or inner struggles.
From “Triggered” to “Summer 2020”, Jhené displays the highs and lows of life, but finds a way to heal, balance, and remain present. A major highlight of her third LP was the incorporation of singing bowls, which are used for healing or meditation purposes.
“I feel like my best self when I play the bowls”, Aiko states to CBS Jamie Yuccas. Chilombo is nominated for three Grammy awards in Album of the Year, Best Progressive R&B Album, and Best R&B Performance for “Lightning and Thunder” featuring John Legend.
On top of her nominations, Aiko will host the Grammy pre-show on March 14. Burna Boy is amongst the seven performers at the Premier Ceremony and there will be a Marvin Gaye tribute celebrating the 50th anniversary of the timeless classic “Mercy, Mercy Me”.
