What You Expect Sits Down With Trademark
Producing is not for everyone. Some may say that putting together an instrumental is more difficult than writing lyrics. An instrumentalist can easily be overlooked, and therefore not be given their deserved flowers. A beatmaker who has worked with some of your favorite MCs is Trademark. The California native has been around for a minute.
His big break was producing for Trill Sammy (when he was relevant), and now he produces for the likes of Lil Durk, G Herbo, King Von, & Trippie Redd, among others. One of his most frequent collaborators happens to be DC the Don (who is also responsible for reciting the producers “Trademark!” tag), who in 2020 released the album Come As You Are, which Trademark has production credits all over the project.
Trademark sat down with What You Expect’s Noah Soria in Ice Cube’s personal studio in North Hollywood. While being accompanied by Sad Frosty in the room, Trademark talked about his musical origins, his relationship with DC the Don, Lamelo Ball, and producing for some of Chicago’s finest, among other things. The full conversation is out now on YouTube.
