The crowd filled the room in anticipation, waiting for Masego to hit the stage for the Houston tour stop on Aug. 7 for his Fix Your Face tour. The show was sold out, the room was packed, and everyone was ready to witness what felt like a celebration of true R&B and musicianship.

The stage was set with cream-colored curtains, red lights filling the room, and a two-piece band ready to go. Then Masego appeared, wearing a black leather jacket and shades to match his effortlessly cool demeanor.
He opened the night with “Wonderwoman” from his latest project, immediately setting the tone for what was more than just an R&B concert. This was a show built around musicianship, personality, and connection.
Throughout the night, Masego constantly interacted with the audience through call-and-response moments, making the sold-out room feel like one big family. During “Heaven,” he had the entire crowd singing melodies back to him in a moment that almost felt like church. He divided the audience into different sections like one massive choir, giving each part its note from his keyboard and conducting the room himself.
It was one of those moments where you realized the crowd wasn’t just there to watch the show. We were part of it.
And then came the sax.
Masego picked it up, reminding everyone exactly why his live performances hit differently. Later, he moved to the piano for “Dotted Line,” jamming with his band and allowing the music to breathe. For the crowd favorite “Unhinged,” Masego sat down beside his drummer, almost like he wanted to get closer to the pulse of the record before singing it. That attention to the music carried throughout the entire show.
Masego used every part of the stage, making sure each section of the room got its own moment. No matter where you were standing or sitting, there really wasn’t a bad seat in the house.
“Recommend” became another crowd favorite before he smoothly mixed a little Lil’ Mo into “Mystery Lady,” giving Houston an R&B moment that longtime fans immediately caught.

Then he took us straight to Jamaica with “Hello.”
Every dance move, every hit, and every wind had the women in the crowd going crazy. Masego knew exactly what he was doing, and the energy in the room completely shifted. His drummer eventually took over for a solo of his own, sending the crowd into another frenzy.
One of the most intimate moments of the night came when Masego picked up his guitar for an acoustic performance of “I Know You,” once again showcasing just how many instruments he can move between effortlessly.
With the lights shining directly on him, everything else seemed to disappear. For a few minutes, it felt less like a sold-out concert and more like we had been invited into an unplugged session. It was just Masego, his guitar and the audience.
That intimacy continued when he made his way into the crowd, while cameras projected fans onto the massive screen behind him. He joked with Houston about date night, called out everyone who might currently be stuck in the friend zone and made sure to let the crowd know how beautiful everyone looked that night.
From there, it was hit after hit.
“Old Age.” “Mystery Lady.” “Yamz.” “Tadow.”
By this point, Houston was singing every word.
Masego eventually left the stage, but nobody in the building was ready for the night to end. He returned for an encore, closing out a show that proved why he continues to stand in his own lane.
Masego doesn’t just perform songs. He builds moments around them.
Between the saxophone, guitar, piano, live drums, vocals, dancing, and his ability to turn a packed venue into his own personal choir, Houston got to experience an artist who understands what it means to put on a real show.
It was soulful. It was musical. It was intimate. And most importantly, it was R&B.
Houston showed up for Masego, and Masego gave Houston a night worth remembering.
