Marques Anthony is giving his fans a taste of what’s to come with the release of his new single “Twin.”

The singer and songwriter sat down with Lowkey R&B following the release of “Say Yes” and “Twin” as he builds up the momentum for his debut project.
Unlike “Say Yes,” which features a slower melody and seamless falsettos delivered by Anthony, “Twin” showcases the singer’s ability to get his message across on more of an uptempo track. The song is described as leaning into a connection “that feels natural and familiar. It’s about finding someone who thinks like you, moves like you, and just gets it without having to explain.”
On the track, Anthony describes how enamoured he is with his love interest, but more than physical attributes are put on a pedestal as to why he stays interested in her. He makes it clear that the connection feels so natural because they’re truly in sync.
“We be on the same page at the same time, finishing my sentences must be reading my mind,” he sings on “Twin.”
His latest effort follows the release of his lead single “Say Yes,” which dropped last month.
“Say Yes is good for all R&B lovers. If you love R&B music, especially like that 90s sound, where R&B was really R&Bing at that point in time. You're definitely gonna fall in love with this sound,” Anthony says of his lead single. “The good thing about it is that we were able to take a sound that I'm used to, that I grew up listening to, that I know a lot of people love and miss, and just make it modern. We just made it more of today’s sound, so it doesn't sound old. It doesn't sound like something from the 90s. But if you understand R&B music, it gives you all of that in one big bowl of cereal.”
“Say Yes” and “Twin” are a preview of what is to come as these singles will be a part of a larger project of the singer’s — his debut album. When asked to describe what the project will sound like, given “Say Yes” and “Twin” as a reference, Anthony shared that fans will be able to hear his versatility throughout the project. While the songs might share similarity in theme or even sonically to an extent, Anthony promises that the songs will not leave fans with a mundane experience.
“I would say Say Yes probably is one of the slower ballads that we have on the album. But the album itself is hard for me to describe because, as the artist, literally every song on there is one of my favorite songs. And I don't say that just to hype the record up, but they're all so different that each song has like its own life. That's why I know people are going to fall in love with this album because, sometimes, you get an album and once you hear something or the artists that create something, they tend to stick to the same sound. So a lot of the songs sound similar, but they're different. These songs, we hid every bit of R&B from different lanes and different ways, so that you get to experience some of the BPMs that are a little faster than the other ones. But nothing sounds alike.”
While this will be Anthony’s first solo studio album, Anthony is far from an industry rookie. He started his career in the music industry as a background singer for Jamie Foxx, Kelly Rowland, and Monica. Anthony previously released his debut mixtape, The Beginning, in 2013. The standout track from that project was “On It” featuring Jeremih.
Anthony teased that his debut project will be supported by live performances alongside several visual elements. As for a release date, Anthony shared that the time window will be “late spring” or “early summer.”
“Twin” is available now on all streaming platforms.
