Kenyon Dixon Kicks Off His ‘The R&B You Love Tour’ In Houston
After kicking off his The R&B You Love Tour at Dallas’ TwoGetherLand, Kenyon Dixon returned to Texas for the first official concert stop at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall. Despite the heavy rain coming into the city from Hurricane Beryl, Kenyon had the venue packed from front to back.
Kenyon offered a meet and greet option to connect with his fans, in which he selected four individuals to participate in his “R&B You Love” Karaoke Challenge. These four people were given R&B classics to sing as openers for him featuring; “Nice and Slow” by Usher, “Cry For You” by Jodeci, “The Way” by Jill Scott, and “Sweet Love” by Anita Baker. The collective of voices between the contestants and the crowd in the venue signified that Houston had a few vocalists of their own.

The band proceeded to the stage to prep for Kenyon to come out, and the crowd started cheering and clapping. Suddenly, they began to sing Stevie Wonder’s famous rendition of the“Happy Birthday” song in unison as they waited for Kenyon. As they finished the last note, the band continued to play in the background as Kenyon walked on stage, expressing his gratitude and showing appreciation to his fans for being there to celebrate his birthday with him by coming to the show.
As the fans gathered closer to the stage for the start of the show, the enthusiasm grew with each person pulling out their phones to record Kenyon singing his first song, “In Your Head,” followed by “Shine” from his more recent album, The R&B You Love. Kenyon spoke about how he cherished his fans coming out, though the weather wasn’t the best, and encouraged everyone to sing, love their neighbor, and enjoy themselves the rest of the night.

Kenyon took it back to his 2022 album, Closer, singing “Marvin Gaye” and “Love on Replay,” and without a second to think, the cluster of people sang loudly and joined Kenyon as he performed them both.
In between the two albums Kenyon did a sample of an older R&B classic, “Whip Appeal” by Babyface, as he displayed a few dance moves throughout his performance. The crowd cheered, whooped, and inspired Kenyon to be himself, and he continued the show.
During his hit single, “Closer” Kenyon serenaded an audience member while she sat in a chair on stage. In the middle of song, Kenyon’s band remixed a little bit of Usher’s “Superstar” instrumental for Kenyon to cater to his superfan a little bit more.
The vibe during the entire time was nothing but melodic and nostalgic. Kenyon’s old-school flavor soul is very apparent when he performs and is not only felt but actively seen throughout the crowd. One older couple was spotted on multiple occasions intimately slow dancing with each other, immersed in the melody and the mood of the moment.
To close out the show, Kenyon performed his complimentary single “Lucky” which turned the listening crowd into a soulful church choir amongst the entire venue. Hitting high notes and queuing the crowd when to sing, the concert turned into an R&B church service with the keyboard playing in the background.
