Downtown was extremely active for a Tuesday night. Yes, the Houston Rockets were hosting the Milwaukee Bucks for a regular season showdown at Toyota Center, but that wasn't the only thing keeping the streets occupied. Just a couple of blocks across the street, JoJo was in town hosting her Too Much To Say tour upstairs at House of Blues. The venue was undeniably packed very early, and fans jockeyed for premium concert-viewing positions as soon as doors opened.

To kick the night off, up-and-coming artist Emmy Melí was the opener, proving instantly why she was the ultimate compliment to warm the crowd up as she offered a distinct splash of upbeat, acoustic songs mixed with tantric melodies. She performed a few selections from her most recent EP, like "Happy Ending," "Hands Off Me," and "Breakthrough," which really showcased her personality by including a healthy balance of sweet, sexy, and fun!

Melí made sure to keep things fun and comical, which was well received by everyone, instructing the crowd to cheer for her every time she took a sip of water, in order to drown out her awkward "ASMR" gulps. In the middle of her set, she got very emotional and took the time to share with everyone how proud she was of not only her Mexican roots, but also everything her parents and those like them have done for her and others in this country to trailblaze more lasting opportunities to succeed. With tears in her eyes, she immediately sang one of her favorite songs, "I Am Woman."

Before she ended her set, Emmy Melí surprised everyone by performing for the first time ever, her newest song, "God's Favorite," which officially releases on March 14th. The song is a heartfelt, touching melody that reminds us to focus only on the things that lie deep within us that nobody can take away from us, like happiness, inner wealth, love, community, and revolution.

House of Blues steadily grew anxious as the hour had finally arrived for our woman of the night to make her appearance. Before she could be introduced properly, the sound crew ran into a brief series of technical difficulties, forcing them to restart the opening song three times —which, as we all know, is a charm. JoJo, being the utmost professional that she is, kept everything positive and reassured everyone that things would be fixed shortly, and evidently they were! She walked out to a scene filled with a glowing and vibrant aura of yellow and white lights, while she adorned a mesmerizing, metallic outfit that gleamed as she strutted.

Within the first two selections, JoJo wasted no time showcasing her vocal prowess, swiftly reminding everyone in attendance who may have doubted that the songstress still possessed that awe-inspiring voice. She smiled so innocently and thanked the crowd for their attendance and patience, then performed a couple of songs off her 2021 EP trying not to think about it, starting with "Fresh New Sheets."

Shortly after, she transitioned into "Gold" and "Think About You" — both timeless tracks featured on her 2021 project good to know. In the midst of the transition, a circle of cell phone lights could be seen hovering nearby stage right, spotlighting a lovely couple who just got engaged at the concert. JoJo was so moved by the moment that before she started to sing, she congratulated the couple on their engagement and dedicated the song "Gold" to them.

At one point in the show, she covered a few favorite songs like SZA's "Love Galore." She then surprised everyone by calling up famous actor and Houston native Kendrick Samuel from Insecure to the stage to help her sing SWV's iconic song, "Weak."

Tuesday night was a culmination of sentimental nostalgia, organic vibes, and timeless memories. JoJo's Too Much To Say tour will forever be cemented in our minds as a must-see event, and hopefully, it won't be the last time she shares her genuine voice and kind spirit with us on the road!
